Best Lake District Walks near Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa

The Lake District is beloved for its beauty – but also for its stunning walks. Recently, the Lake District was featured heavily in Britain’s Best Walks Top 100 – with six walks in the region highlighted. Here at Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa, our location puts us right in the heart of some of the most stunning fells and landscapes in the entire national park. As such, we have crafted a list of our favourite walking locations that our guests can tackle near the hotel.

Does the idea of retiring back to luxury after your walk appeal? Book an overnight stay and set out on one of these stunning routes, then head back to our hotel and rejuvenate with a trip to the spa and a stay in total comfort.

Best Lake District Walks For Families

If you are visiting with your family in our luxurious family rooms, you need a walking route that is accessible, not too challenging and offers plenty of distraction for the children. Near our hotel is Dodd Wood and Whinlatter forest, which is home to migrating osprey you can make a game of spotting. Both woods are on opposite sides of Bassenthwaite Lake, and include family trails, play areas and tea rooms should you need refreshments before you return to the hotel.

Best Lake District Walk For Beginners

If you would like to take on a stroll that is not too challenging but offers a lovely view, you can tackle Derwentwater. The ‘Queen of the Lakes’ in Keswick offers a circular walk with the added benefit of a boat on the lake – so you can rest your tired legs if needed.

Best Lake District Walks Closest To Armathwaite Hall

If you want to tackle a traditional Lake District ‘fell’ without heading too far from the hotel, Sale Fell is just a five minute drive away. It is one of the smallest ‘Wainwrights’ – 214 fells described in Alfred Wainwright’s Pictorial Guide to the Lakeland Fells. It is also a gentle walk that offers commanding, breath-taking views of Bassenthwaite Lake.

Best Lake District Walk For Views

Skiddaw Mountain is the closest true ‘mountain’ to our hotel – the fourth highest peak in the Lake District at 931m of elevation. It is a challenging walk despite being regarded as the simplest Lake District Mountain, so it should only be attempted by confident walkers. You will have definitely earned a night of rest once you have enjoyed Skiddaw!

All of these walks are terrific ways to experience nature and the region at its finest. Stay at Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa to enjoy some of the best Lake District walks coupled with rest, relaxation and luxury! Contact us today to book your stay.
