Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but it’s also a period of opportunity for businesses across the country. From Christmas markets to city breaks, people flock in their thousands to destinations across the UK. And guess which National Park is the most popular at Christmas time….
But which are the most popular? Where do Brits like to celebrate the season the most? To find out, Armathwaite Hall Hotel studied Google UK search queries for every single town, city and region in our country to see which destinations people are searching for the most.
Methodology
We wanted to find out what the most popular places to spend Christmas were – but of course London dominates in terms of popularity due to its size. The data gathered was Google Search Volumes, which is an estimation of the number of monthly searches made for specific terms. To avoid London dominating results, we split our research into the most popular:
The beautiful National Parks in our country provide a great backdrop for your Christmas celebrations. But which is most popular?
Everyone loves a Christmas market – but which of the UK’s is the one we Google the most?
Manchester is the clear Christmas Market winner – with almost double as many searches as Edinburgh!
In general, the results for the most popular searches for Christmas in a city aren’t too shocking – although York as third most popular Christmas city was a surprise.
London as the capital perhaps unfairly wins its place at the top of the list due to population size – but Edinburgh comes a close second.
Oh we do like to live beside the sea side! Or at least, some of us do at Christmastime…
Bournemouth is a clear winner for the most popular seaside resort, although our nearby Blackpool is also popular as a Christmas escape.
As parties and revelry fill the country, where are we most interested in around New Year’s Eve?
London wins it again! Perhaps unfairly due to its size – although Manchester and Edinburgh are close seconds, proving that the party must go on all over the UK.
Combining the most popular choices in all of the above categories shows us a map of the UK’s most popular overall Christmas escapes.
As you can see, London is the most popular for general Christmas and New Year’s Eve queries but The Lake District, Manchester and Bournemouth all take the top spots in their own categories! If you choose any national park to escape to this Christmas, come to Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa and experience luxury in the heart of the Lakes…
