This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa has tried to include as much accurate detail to describe our facilities as possible in our Access Statement but would welcome your feedback in order to continually improve on the information we give.
We welcome all guests at our hotel, including guests with an impairment which could include mobility, sight, hearing and learning disabilities.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel and Spa is situated in 400 acres of deer park and woodland on the northern shore of Bassenthwaite Lake. We are established as one of English Lake District’s premier hotels. Armathwaite’s 46 bedrooms are all stylishly decorated with our guests comfort in mind.

The nearest railway station is Penrith, which is 24 miles away, and takes approximately 35 minutes by car. If you require an accessible taxi this can be booked in advance, please see our contact details for further information.

It is recommended that you discuss your requirements with our reservations team at the time of booking to ensure the most suitable room for your needs is allocated to you.
Car parking is available in the hotel grounds and is accessible via the B5291 (CA12 4RE). There are car parking spaces available a short distance from the main entrance to the hotel. Two clearly marked disabled parking bays are available in the courtyard car park to the left hand side of the main hotel entrance.
The hotel can be accessed via the main entrance, courtyard entrances and Spa entrance which are all located at ground level.
The foyer area has two small stone steps before it, however a ramp can be laid out upon request.
Access to Reception is available on the ground floor level within the main entrance to the hotel.
Full porterage is offered, providing assistance on your arrival with luggage.
The car parks are all on one level and well-lit.
The reception desk is situated to the left hand side once inside the main entrance, which is level throughout. The reception desk is at an accessible level; alternatively, we are able to offer a seated check in service away from the desk if this is more suitable.
Reception has a carpeted floor.
Guests will be shown the lake view lounge, bar, hall, lake view restaurant and their bedroom.
The corridors are well lit.
We have a guest lounge, hall, conservatory and bar which are located on the ground floor turning right from the entrance foyer. These rooms have a mixture of banquet seating, sofas and chairs with low tables.
Lighting is natural daylight and overhead lighting.
The flooring is carpeted throughout other than the conservatory which is tiled.
Accessible toilets are located on ground level further down the corridor from reception and also adjacent to the Spa.
The Lake View Restaurant is situated on ground level and is accessible from the reception area. Access can also be through the conservatory (accessible through the Lake View lounge).
The room has traditional clothed restaurant tables and comfortable seating. Chairs with or without arms can be provided.
Lighting is natural daylight and high level, wall lighting and table lamps.
The flooring is carpet.
Breakfast consists of a buffet style continental selection. Tea, coffee, toast and cooked dishes are served. We would be delighted to serve you a Continental selection if required.
The Courtyard Brasserie is situated on the ground floor and is accessible either through the main reception area and down a long corridor, or perhaps more easily through the courtyard car park.
The room has a mixture of wooden and tiled flooring and has modern wooden tables and chairs as well as a banquette unit across one wall. All of the chairs have arms but we can provide chairs without upon request.
We are able to cater for various dietary requirements –please speak to the Brasserie staff on duty.
The lighting is natural daylight and high level lighting as well as some down lighting and table candles.
Situated on the ground floor, accessible from the hotel down the main corridor, or through the main Spa car park entrance.
The poolside area has a disabled changing/wet room, located behind the Spa reception where low level lockers are provided. The shower has an adjustable seat and the toilet also has a grab-rail. Emergency pull cords are next to the toilet and shower which sound the alarm at the Spa reception.
The poolside has non-slip tiles throughout and panic alarms are situated outside the disabled changing room, in the thermal suite by the heated bench and one in each of the heated rooms. All panic buttons sound alarms at the Spa reception. CCTV is also present covering the majority of the swimming pool and surrounding areas.
The main pool which is 1.2 meters in depth has ladder access at either end of the pool, our small pool, hot tub and hydro pool are all 1 meter in depth, and have gradual steps and handrails for easier access in and out.
The upstairs treatment area is accessible by the lift which is situated behind the Spa reception. This area has a mixture of tile, carpet and wooden flooring throughout.
The upstairs disabled toilet, is just to the left of the lift, and is fitted with a low level toilet and sink with a couple of grab-rails and has an emergency pull cord just by the toilet which activates the alarm down on the Spa reception.
All treatment rooms have adjustable lighting and are fitted with adjustable treatment beds and all have panic buttons which sound at the Spa reception. The first treatment room on the left is our disabled treatment room with easy access to shower facilities.
In the case of an emergency we have an emergency button at the top of the main stairs in the Spa which calls an emergency phone down on the Spa reception, we also have an Evac-chair which is in the disabled toilet upstairs.
We have 46 bedrooms throughout the hotel, 10 of which are on the ground floor. Bedrooms and bathrooms are bright and evenly lit by overhead lighting; bedside lighting and a desk lamp. Bathrooms are lit with an overhead light and mirror lighting. We are happy to provide additional light if required.
Bedroom flooring is short pile carpet.
All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms.
All bathroom floors are tiled. Rubber anti-slip bath mats can be provided in the bathrooms upon request.
Function Suites/Conference rooms – Lime Trees Suite & Broadwater Suite
The furniture provided in these rooms are moveable and chairs with or without arms can be provided. Specialist furniture and equipment can be provided on request with advance notice of your requirements.
Gardens; there is a large garden area which can be accessed from the reception area, conservatory or through the Function Suite. Tables and chairs are provided for outdoor seating arrangements.
Terraces; there is a large terrace which is accessible via the Lime Trees Suite or Broadwater Suite and another smaller, accessed through the conservatory.
The main hotel toilets are situated approximately 12 metres further along the corridor from reception, towards the Spa.
The Spa has toilets both just at its entrance, which is shared with the function suites and also inside the main reception.
All toilets have separate accesible sections with horizontal and vertical grab rails and lever arm taps.
All toilets have hard flooring and are well lit.
The fire alarm system uses bells. We are able to provide assistance if you make us aware of this requirement.
Our Manager on Duty will be made aware of any guests that require assistance in the event of an emergency evacuation.

Should any medication require refrigeration, this is not a problem; however please make the reception team aware of this at the time of booking.

Should any measurements of any sections of the building be required including corridor lengths, door widths, toilet heights etc, we would be only happy to provide these upon request.
