Winter Weddings at Armathwaite Hall

Although summer is traditionally wedding season in the UK, winter weddings are becoming more and more popular. A snowy winter wonderland is the perfect backdrop for a romantic day and what better setting to choose than the beautiful Lake District? Armathwaite Hall can give you a winter wedding day to remember with our breath-taking surrounding scenery and amazing facilities. Here is a sneak peek of how your special day with us may look…

The start of your celebration

On arrival at Armathwaite, guests can relax in the Hall with a drink next to a roaring fire. Forget champagne or cocktails, friends and family can all have a warming cup of delicious spiced mulled wine. Surrounded by our twinkling Christmas decorations, the excitement will soon build for the arrival of the happy couple.

Candles will line the aisle where the main event takes place to create a cosy atmosphere. The ceremony can be planned with our dedicated wedding coordinator, so every moment is exactly how you have always dreamt it to be.

After the ceremony

Once the vows are done, guests will be treated to some warming home canapes, such as mini quiches and pigs in blankets – the Christmas classic! While they enjoy a scrumptious and hearty nibble, the wedding photos can begin. With a stunning backdrop of Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw Mountain, the grounds of Armathwaite Hall are made for romantic shots. The Lake District tends to get a lot of snow in the Winter, so with some luck your photos could have a dreamy snow-covered landscape as their background. If there’s no snow, you’ll still have gorgeously clear starry skies and the crystal clear lake to make your photos stand out.

The wedding breakfast can be dressed to suit any theme, from classic white and gold to a more rustic wood and berries theme. A delicious three course meal can be followed by a party that starts off with a bang. Treat your guests to a firework display on our grounds overlooking the lake to celebrate the start of your life together. This is also an opportunity for your guests to enjoy fun winter wedding quirks like warm blankets and hot chocolates.

Why have a winter wedding?

Summer weddings are so dependent on weather and a sudden downpour can really spoil the day. With a winter wedding, you are already planning to be largely inside, so a sudden change in conditions will not affect your plans. The only thing you can wish for is a dusting of snow to create a magical environment to be wed in.

More than anything, a winter wedding is an opportunity to make your special day stand out from the rest and really give your friends and family a day to remember. There is a lot more availability in winter than summer, so you are more likely to get your first choice of date. This is perfect if you have a special anniversary or birthday during winter that you want to combine with your wedding day.
