Make the very most of this truly unique time for the Lake District with our top tips:
Where to view: Head to the Keswick start line to enjoy the incredible pre-race atmosphere and see all the cyclists set off on their journey. Grasmere Village is another great spot to spot some racing action! You can also download the official Tour de France app, which gives you live timing and location updates for the best views.
Come prepared: Even though the event is taking place in summer, the Lake District is known for its wonderfully changeable weather! We recommend bringing sturdy shoes, an umbrella and a raincoat, alongside sun protection to ensure you are prepared for anything.
Stay hydrated: Bringing plenty of water is essential, especially if you are planning on following the race for the full day. Packing extra snacks is also a good idea. The Lakes is home to lots of brilliant cafés and restaurants, but some race viewpoints are a significant distance from the towns and villages.
Book in advance: Select your preferred accommodation and book your room well in advance. We expect our rooms to have limited availability in the lead-up to the Tour de France, thanks to all the cycling fans expected in the area.
Ditch the car: Arriving on foot or by bike is best, as road closures and crowds mean cars are kept away from the action. If you are bringing your car, make sure you know where all the best carparks are before setting off.
Stay safe: Remember to keep dogs on leads and ensure children are kept close to you. Always take photographs from behind the official barriers. It is dangerous for both the cyclists and spectators to enter the race path.
Get involved: If you do not have your own bike but want a slice of the cycling action, why not hire one? Discover fantastic bike hire spots near Armathwaite Hall:

Enjoy yourself! Remember to throw yourself into this experience, take plenty of photos and enjoy this time with your loved ones. The Tour de France in the Lakes will become a historic moment that many of us will remember for years to come.
