Your days, as you like them.
The Northern Lake District moves at a quieter pace. Whether you want adventure or long, unhurried days, there is a version of this trip for you.
Bassenthwaite lakeside walks
The Lake District’s only true lake is right on our doorstep. Fully protected, no motorboats and incredible osprey nesting grounds. Walk its shores in any season.
Wildlife and animal experiences
From our onsite Wildlife Park — home to tapirs, meerkats and more — to the Ultimate Animal Experience, there is no shortage of genuinely unique afternoons on the estate. Included or discounted with our Lake District romantic breaks.
Keswick and Derwentwater
A 10-minute drive delivers you to Keswick’s cobbled market town and the shores of Derwentwater — hire a romantic rowboat or simply enjoy a long lunch at a lakeside pub.
Birds of Prey experience
Fly hawks together on the estate. A rare experience that requires nothing more than a willingness to be surprised.
Fell Walking to Skiddaw
England’s fourth-highest mountain is practically next door. The views from the summit — across to the Solway Firth and Scotland on a clear day — are sure to be a subject of fond conversation for years to come.
For a special occasion – The Dining Room
Period elegance, candlelight and the kind of service that makes a celebration feel earned. Best for anniversaries and proposals — reserve a window table if you can.
For a relaxed evening – The Grill
Locally sourced steak and seafood, served in a more contemporary setting. Unpretentious, excellent and genuinely enjoyable without formality. A good choice on the second night.
For authentic dining – Zaika
Authentic Indian cuisine designed to awaken your senses and delight your palate, each dish is served with an Armathwaite twist. Ideal for couples with adventurous tastes.
Enjoy a nightcap before retiring to your romantic suite for the evening or book an afternoon you will never forget.
For a cosy night in – The Cocktail Bar
Wrapped up by the fire with expertly made cocktails and nowhere to be. The Cocktail Bar is one of those rooms that makes it easy to stay for one more.
For a slow afternoon – Afternoon Tea
Taken in The Dining Room between 12:30–5pm. Add prosecco. A Lake District tradition you have to experience at least once (or twice).
Each season has its own character. Spring brings blossom and birdsong on the estate; summer means long evenings by the lake; autumn delivers dramatic colour on the fells; winter — with snow-capped Skiddaw and open fires — is perhaps the most romantic season of all.
Our Garden Suites are the most popular with couples — they have working fireplaces, king-sized beds, roll-top baths and direct garden access. For lake views, the Deluxe Lake View rooms are unbeatable. We are happy to advise when you call.
